How Many Unrecognized Heroes do you Know?
Too many times individuals are recognized at their eulogy for the wonderful things they have done for others and organizations. How much better would it be if we could look them in the eye and say thank you. Our firm, Kelly T. Davis, CPA, PA of Overland Park, Kansas, has embraced this idea and for the last three years, we have recognized a deserving individual or individuals through our Humanitarian of the Year Award. The staff nominates a candidate they deem worthy of consideration and then together they select the standout candidate (s). Cari Hillyer of Overland Park, Kansas is our 2015 Humanitarian of the Year recipient. Cari is being recognized for her work/volunteerism at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leawood, Kansas and the Archdiocese of Kansas City.
Cari serves in several ministries at St. Michael’s to include the CARE Worship Program that she started ten years ago. This ministry offers parents of special needs children the opportunity to attend mass while their children participate in a special Sunday school program designed for them. In addition, Cari serves as a Stephen Minister (lay minister supporting those with emotional, physical and mental situations), and Lay Director for the women’s CRHP (Christ Renews His Parish) group, provides meals as part of the Sick & Bereavement Committee and also serves on the Special Needs Committee for the Archdiocese of Kansas City.
On February 4, 2016, we did a surprise presentation at her office, Holy Family School of Faith, where we presented her with a commemorative award and a $500 donation to Children’s Mercy Hospital in her honor.
So, how many unrecognized heroes/heroines do you know? How about picking one and tell them you appreciate what they do to make our world a better place. Learn about our past winners at www.dougfreemancpa.com/awards.html.
